Why become a volunteer?

Volunteers who are part of the Australian Volunteers for International Development program make a real sustained difference in developing countries. Volunteers connect and collaborate with people across the globe to share their knowledge and experience to build capacity.

Certainly volunteering abroad is growing in popularity. The unique feature of the Australian Volunteers for International Development program is that all assignments are centred on sustainable development and active monitoring and evaluation takes place to ensure the impact of volunteer assignments is real and fits within stated objectives. Those participating in the Australian Volunteers for International Development program can be assured that their volunteer position is not replacing a local person's job.

Australian Volunteers for International Development positions are created mutually between the overseas host organisation and a Core Partner (Austraining International, Australian Volunteers International or Australian Red Cross). This ensures volunteers work with direction and supervision, while contributing to Australian Government and partner government's aid development priorities.
