NEW Paediatric Physiotherapy Trainer

Description: The Paediatric Physiotherapy Trainer will work with Labasa Hospital’s Physiotherapy Department, to improved public access to quality paediatric physiotherapy services and build the capacity of local Physiotherapists to aid in the prevention of non-communicable disease and increased quality of life for people living with chronic disease. The volunteer will strengthen the capacity of the HO and its staff in several key areas. To develop and assist in the implementation of a physiotherapy model, the volunteer will research, assess and recommend appropriate models and strategies, particularly for children with neurological, musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory conditions, physical impairment and chronic disease. They train staff on the use of these models and strategies on wider skills in the assessment and management of children with paediatric conditions and clients with, or at risk of contracting, chronic diseases.To assist with the implementation of paediatric and community based chronic disease programs, the volunteer will train local physiotherapists in the use of assessment tools, handouts and resources and conducting home based assessments. The volunteer will then be required to develop a plan to address departmental deficiencies by identify areas of need including staff, resources, equipment and subsequently assisting the supervisor to make proposals for change. They will also assist local physiotherapists to document waitlists for physically challenged children to levels of need and engage networks to address insufficiencies. Finally, the volunteer will supervise and mentor students to increase knowledge and skills of Physiotherapy students in the management of paediatric conditions, and work with the Fiji Physiotherapy Association to advance its services. Ultimately, the completion of these objectives will better allow the Labasa Hospital to work towards their aim of improving the quality of life of children living with chronic disease and physical impairment.

Description: The Center for Community Health and Development (COHED) is a Non-Government Organisation based in Hanoi Vietnam. COHED works with vulnerable communities throughout Vietnam, undertaking sustainable community development initiatives and delivering Public Health programs. COHED’s programs target a range of health and livelihood issues, including: HIV/AIDS prevention, climate change adaptation as well as conducting research and income support initiatives. COHED requires an Australian Volunteer to design and deliver a Master Design Plan to landscape a tourist site in the Mai Chau district, Hoa Binh province in Northern Vietnam. COHED’s objective is to develop a tourist site that will provide income generation for the vulnerable communities in Mai Chau through tourism initiatives and ongoing site maintenance. The volunteer will require experience in Landscape Architecture and will need to work with both COHED management staff and their consultants to deliver the Plan.
